Author: I’ve not a big fan of Mother’s Day. It all started when my mother told me she didn’t like Mother’s Day. My mother is no longer alive, but I still feel solidarity with her, and perhaps have even passed this cranky dislike on to my daughters. There are many things our parents do when they raise us that we instinctively do for, to or with our own children. Like when my daughters asked if they could pierce their ears, I remembered my mother’s rule: not before you are 18. I was about to reiterate the piercing rule to my daughters when I thought: why? I can change that “rule” if I want. And I did.

Texans trade down, choose WR Posey in 3rd round
HOUSTON (AP) – The Houston Texans traded themselves out of the second round of the NFL draft Friday night and still filled two critical needs.
Houston picked Ohio State receiver DeVier Posey and Miami (Ohio) offensive lineman Brandon Brooks in the third round, addressing two roster positions with depth questions.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Posey caught only 12 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns in three games last year. He served two five-game suspensions for taking improper benefits, first cash and tattoos for signed memorabilia and then being overpaid for a summer job.

The UFCs Saturday show in New Jersey now will feature all of its 12 fights in a broadcast of some kind.
The promotion has made the first two preliminary card fights of UFC on Fox: Diaz vs. Miller available via its Facebook live stream. Until Thursday, it was expected that the first two fights of the night would be dark matches – available to be seen only by those in attendance at the show. But in keeping with a more than year-old broadcasting philosophy, those two fights now will be available live on Facebook.

Vietnam’s five-year bonds rose for a
19th day, the longest winning streak since July 2006, on
speculation interest rates will be lowered. The dong weakened.
